A Coast to Coast Walk Second Edition

Over the years this 190-mile walk - from St Bees Head on the Irish Sea by way of the Lake District, the Pennines, Swaledale and the North York Moors, ending at Robin Hood's Bay on the North Sea - has become one of the best-loved long-distance routes in the world.

PENJBK
A Pennine Journey
In September 1938, A. Wainwright made a solitary walk through the Pennines. The following year he wrote up an account of this walk, which was eventually published in 1986. This illustrated guide, written by members of the Wainwright Society, is a recreation of this walk adapted for today’s roads and rights-of-way, taking a route that Wainwright might have chosen if he was planning it today. The route is 247 miles long and divided into 18 stages. With maps and illustrations inspired by the work of the great AW, this labour of love is essential for all those who wish to follow in Wainwright’s footsteps.

LTOURBK
Wainwright’s Lost Tour
In the early part of 1931 the young Alfred Wainwright was hard at work devising his first long distance walk. During the Whitsuntide holiday that year he and three mates from the council offices in Blackburn planned to do a long walking tour in the Lake District which would see every lake, valley and mountain in the district. AW kept no record of the walk but one of the party – W.E. Maudsley did. Now the award winning photographer Ed Geldard has created a spectacular photographic record of that lost tour.
